Writing a book can feel like a daunting task, especially if you have never started or struggled to keep going. Many people want to write but hesitate because they doubt their voice or feel blocked by the idea of perfection. For parents, encouraging children to write can seem even more challenging. How do you help a child find their voice? How do you overcome the fear of writing?
I created a video series with five parts designed to help both adults and children become comfortable with their unique voice and unlock their creativity. This process encourages writing what you hear inside, trusting your instincts, and allowing your creativity to flow freely. Writing is not just about producing a book; it’s about expanding your life, discovering your purpose, and breaking free from the endless cycle of chasing life instead of living it.
Below, I share the five steps from the video series to help you and your children start writing and enjoy the process. I also included the first video to get you started.

Step 1: Become Comfortable with Your Voice
The first step to writing is to get comfortable with your own voice. Many people hesitate because they think their voice is not good enough or that their ideas are not interesting. The truth is, your voice is unique and valuable.
How to practice:
Speak your thoughts out loud before writing them down.
Record yourself talking about a topic you care about.
Read your recordings and notice the natural rhythm and tone of your speech.
For children, this can be a fun game. Ask them to tell a story or describe something they love, then write down exactly what they say. This helps them trust their voice without worrying about grammar or spelling at first.
Step 2: Write What You Hear
Once you are comfortable with your voice, the next step is to write what you hear inside your mind. This means capturing your thoughts, feelings, and ideas as they come, without editing or judging them.
Tips to try:
Set a timer for 5 to 10 minutes and write continuously without stopping.
Don’t worry about spelling or punctuation; just focus on getting your ideas on paper.
Use prompts like “What do I want to say?” or “What story is inside me?”
Children often have vivid imaginations. Encourage them to write down their stories exactly as they imagine them, even if they seem silly or strange. This builds trust in their creative instincts.
Step 3: Trust Where Your Writing Leads You
Many writers get stuck because they try to control every word or plan everything in advance. Instead, trust the process and follow where your writing leads you. Sometimes the best ideas come when you let go of control.
How to build trust:
Write without a plan and see what unfolds.
Don’t delete or correct your first drafts; let them be messy.
Reflect on your writing and notice new ideas or feelings that emerge.
For children, this can be a playful experience. Let them write freely and celebrate their creativity without focusing on rules. This freedom helps them enjoy writing and develop confidence.
Step 4: Unlock Creativity by Creating Time and Space
One major obstacle to writing is not making time for it. Our busy lives often leave little room for creative activities. To unlock creativity, you need to create dedicated time and space for writing.
Suggestions:
Set aside 15 to 30 minutes daily or several times a week for writing.
Create a comfortable, distraction-free space for writing.
Encourage children to have their own special writing spot.
This step is about prioritizing your gift to create. When you give yourself permission to write regularly, creativity flows more easily, and writing becomes a habit rather than a chore.
Step 5: Expand Your Life and Unlock Your Purpose Through Writing
Writing is more than a task; it’s a journey that can expand your life and help you discover your purpose. When you write from your heart and trust your voice, you connect with your deeper self.
Ways writing can transform you:
Clarify your thoughts and feelings.
Explore your dreams and goals.
Share your unique perspective with others.
For children, writing can build self-esteem and help them express their emotions. For adults, it can be a path to personal growth and fulfillment.
If you want to start this journey, I invite you to watch the first video in the series below. Share it with friends and family who want to write and break free from the myth of writer’s block. Writing is a natural process that anyone can enjoy when they trust their voice and give themselves permission to create.
Take the first step today. Your story matters.
