Everything is listening........everything

I was in the plant store standing behind a line full of people. The lady two customers in front of me was busy spreading less than-great words about the plant selection in the store. It had gotten so bad that the customer in front of me turned around and started complaining about the lady in front of her complaining. She told me that she hated the lady's complaining attitude and that she wished she didn't complain in front of her because she wasn't a complainer.
Her whispering skills were subpar, so I changed the subject before we became the target of the complainer's affection. Hey, I was an innocent bystander. I did not want any of the dust that was flying in front of me. I asked the lady about her "ponytail ferns". She laughed and looked at the tag that clearly read " foxtail fern".
I didn't have on my glasses.
She looked back at me and I laughed at my mistake. We started talking about plants and she proceeded to tell me that she kills everything. She visits the plant store weekly hoping she can find a plant that she won't kill during the week.
Weekly......Wow!
She said she did not know why she doesn't have a green thumb ( people don't speak in correct grammar, so I don't write in it either). I told her that it wasn't her thumb. It was her thinking and then the words that followed her thinking.
As soon as I said that it was her time to check out. Before she walked out of the garden center. She turned and said that she will work on thinking better.
I don't know if she went back in the following weeks for more replacement plants but I know what I said to be the truth. I'd been testing this truth out for the last 9 months on my surviving plants. The previous year I bought a money tree and two more low-maintenance plants. All of them died along with a few aloe plants and cacti.
Yes, ya'll, I killed a cactus.
It was because I kept telling myself that I didn't have a green thumb and that I always kill plants. As a result of me telling myself that I kill plants. I also said it to many, many, many people. What was even mind-revealing, was that after I bought the plants. I didn't pay any attention to them when I went home. Then when I see them barely hanging on or brown and dead. I sadly empty their pots and stare at the space where they used to be. Do you see the effects?
In the present time, I have been able to keep plants alive because I never again have thought or said I do not have a green thumb again. I talk positively around them and I also speak life to the water when I water them. When someone visits my house, I speak highly of my plants.
Now, what changes can you make to what you say that will affect a portion of your life? What about your day? How can you speak sweet words daily that add flavor to your life? I challenge you to say the things that you really desire. Set a reminder to speak positively when you rise in the morning. If you feel yourself wanting to regress back into negative speech. Just remember that everything is listening.........everything.
