Let’s Get It Started
We have moved into the last days of what many call the most wonderful time of the year—and into what I call the most exciting time of the year.
This is the time frame I like to name: “Let’s get it started.”
So often, people talk about the New Year as a catalyst—the moment when all the promises we’ve put off suddenly come alive. January 1st becomes the magic day when everything is supposed to change.
But today, I want to challenge you to think deeper than simply “starting” on the first day of the New Year.
Instead, think back to when the thought first appeared.
When did you first think about changing something? When did the desire to start—or stop—begin?
Decisions are rarely made in a single moment. There is always a buildup—small thoughts, quiet frustrations, repeated realizations—that eventually lead you to say yes. Yes to a new diet. Yes to a new routine. Yes to a new version of yourself.
Now that you’ve identified what you want to do, the next step is action.
How quickly you act—or how slowly—is up to you. But since you asked me for a tip on how to stay on task, here it is:
Whatever decision you made months—or even years—ago that you are finally starting on January 1, 2026, make it a real decision. Not a wish. Not a burst of motivation. A decision.
Commit to making it part of your habits and routines for at least three months, and then check in with how you feel.
The reason many people stop something they started with excitement is because excitement eventually turns into tolerance. Growth doesn’t always feel exciting—especially when you can’t see it yet.
If you saw your waist shrink on day one, days two through thirteen would feel exhilarating. You’d already be celebrating the outcome. But we all know that isn’t how growth works.
Progress needs time to build a foundation. It has to take root in your mind first—rooted in the belief that you are committed to seeing it through.
That’s why I say: make the decision, then support it with small, intentional progress built into your everyday habits and rituals.
Start by doing these three things:
Decide once—then stop renegotiating.Don’t re-decide every day. Let your decision stand so your energy can go into action, not debate.
Attach your goal to something you already do daily.Pair your new habit with an existing routine so it becomes part of your rhythm, not an extra task.
Track commitment, not perfection.Focus on showing up consistently rather than doing it “right.” Progress grows where consistency lives.
This is how change becomes sustainable. This is how growth becomes real. And this is how you truly get it started—before the calendar even turns.
So as you step into this new year, ask yourself this:
What decision am I willing to honor consistently—long after the excitement fades—because I know the life I want is built in the quiet moments of commitment?
