Flirty Creativity

Growing up in a Christian household I was raised Southern Baptist. I went to a Catholic and Luthern School. I had a few friends that were Muslim and Jehovah's Witnesses. This environment created a sense of freedom for my mindset, but only to the point of knowing that they all had the same objective sprinkled with the creator of their religious rules. I won't get too far into that as I am not here to debate anything.
I said all of that to give a background of understanding on suppressing my inner creativity when it comes to writing less than favorable things. Specifically the genre of Erotica. Because I was so heavily involved in church, the subject of sex was an uncomfortable topic to talk about across the board. If you asked about it you were always told that it was for those that are married and if you weren't married you are forbidden to talk about it. I was told so many false things about sex that when I did get married I did not know what to do.
But deep down in my creative mind, I did know what to do. I just kept it hidden from the world. For one reason, I didn't want to cause shame on my family or let the church people find out that I may need a demon casted out of me. The older I got and the more people I spoke to about writing erotica. I found that they were hiding their creativity too.
Let's talk about this. I don't worry about judgment from others anymore but to those that do. I know how you feel. It is a really stifling place when all you want to do is express yourself and not receive backlash about something you created without the intent to harm others. I had to do a lot of mental work to get to the IDGAF zone. I will tell you, it is a really great place when all you want to do is create and there are spaces available for you to do so.
HOW I PUBLISHED MY FIRST EROTICA BOOK
I was so apprehensive and full of fear that someone would find out about my so-called "double life" and tell my Aunt that I was fornicating on paper. I was ghostwriting spiritual devotionals and outwardly publishing motivation books. How was I going to justify this "impurity" to them?
I had to wait my time. I had to wait until I matured and gained credibility behind my decision and not lean on the opinions of others. I had to love my creativity more than their judgment. I had to look deep inside and confront that person that lie down every night with the desire to express what came to me naturally.
I wrote my first short story and published it about 4 years ago under an alias. It felt amazing just to take a step toward trusting me. That's what it is all about. I needed to trust myself. I took a hiatus for a while to develop my writing style, but I am glad to say I am back at it and this time I am publishing on my platform. The first bok is called In Love With A Goddess. This is the first book of the series and it happens to be erotica. I am not sure if the others will. My other series In Love With A God is not erotica, but it does have some soft sexual content.
I received this book word for word in a dream and wrote in a few hours. It took me a few months to clean up some grammar ( there may still be some incorrect phrases here and there) but now I am happy with it and I must let it go. I hope you enjoy it and share this blog with someone that would like to write erotica.
